Café Compagnon Designer Gesa Hansen Restaurateur Charles Compagnon

With the Richer and the 52, Charles Compagnon contributed to the invention of the neo-bistro. Now he’s doing the same with another Parisian institution: Café Compagnon is something like a café 2.0 – with the tried-and-tested qualities, but chicer, hipper, more contemporary.

A place where fashionistas, artists, it-girls sit behind their Macs, celebrate birthdays, plan cultural revolutions and eat well. The design is by Compagno’s wife, designer Gesa Hansen.

She wanted to create a “calm, peaceful place with authentic materials, a warm minimalism.” She succeeds with lots of oak wood, a color palette of tones ranging from burgundy to terracotta, and marble from Alicante.

One of Hansen’s inspirations: a sketchbook by Compagnon’s grandfather, the sculptor Carlos Ferreira de la Torre
